AI Use Notice
This notice explains how Harvora's AI features work, what data they use, and where they can fail. It forms part of the Harvora Terms of Service. The Privacy Policy covers how we handle personal information generally.
What counts as an AI feature
Harvora has two kinds of output, and we keep them visibly separate.
- (a) Calibrated predictions. Frost, disease, yield, irrigation and similar forecasts come from statistical and agronomic models whose accuracy we measure and publish.
- (b) AI reasoning. Ask Harvora and our other AI features use a large language model to answer questions, explain results and propose facts about your operation. These answers are exploratory. They are labelled "AI reasoning" and are not calibrated predictions.
What the AI features do
- (a) Ask Harvora answers your questions about your blocks and your operation, using your records and Harvora's knowledge base. It can explain a prediction, but it does not replace one.
- (b) Knowledge retrieval finds relevant material in Harvora's knowledge documents and in documents scoped to your orchard, so answers can cite it.
- (c) The grower learning loop reads your logged actions and chat statements from the previous day and proposes facts about your operation, such as equipment you have or your own cost rates. You confirm or reject each proposal, and nothing is saved to your operation profile without your confirmation. Xero records and the finance incidents you record (such as losses and recoveries) are never used in the learning loop. Costs you enter in Harvora may be used to suggest your own cost rates for you to confirm. You can see, correct or remove any fact at any time, or contact us to review or remove it.
What data goes to AI providers
When you use these features, the text we send to the AI provider can include:
- (a) your questions and earlier messages in the conversation;
- (b) block and orchard context, such as crop, variety, location and recent predictions;
- (c) operation profile facts and summaries of your management actions and finances where needed to answer. Xero transaction records are never sent, only totals and summaries; and
- (d) for the learning loop, the previous day's logged actions and chat statements, including any costs you mention.
We send this to OpenRouter, which routes it to AI model providers to produce the answer. We use Google's Gemini embeddings service to find relevant knowledge, which receives the text of your question and knowledge documents. The AI providers we use are set not to store or train on your information. Google may hold prompts briefly for abuse monitoring only. If you use voice, your browser's built-in speech recognition turns your speech into text, and Harvora receives only the text. Your browser's provider handles the speech under its own terms. For example, Google Chrome sends speech audio to Google, and other browsers use their own provider. Where data comes from a licence that does not allow it, such as soil data, we do not send it.
We aim to keep personal identifiers out of what we send, but you should not enter sensitive personal information, passwords or information about other people into Ask Harvora, because AI providers process whatever the text contains.
Limits and risks
- (a) AI can be wrong. Answers may be inaccurate, outdated, incomplete or confidently mistaken. Check anything that matters against your own knowledge and professional advice.
- (b) Not advice. AI output is not financial, legal, tax, insurance or agronomic advice.
- (c) Do not rely on it for critical decisions. Do not use AI reasoning as the sole basis for spraying, protection, financial or safety decisions.
- (d) Learned facts can be wrong. A fact inferred from your records might be a mistake. Review proposals before confirming them.
- (e) Availability. AI features depend on third-party providers and may be slow, limited or unavailable.
No warranty and your responsibility
AI output is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we give no warranty that it is accurate, complete, current or fit for your purpose, and the limits in the Terms of Service apply. You are responsible for checking it and for any decision you make using it. We may monitor and review AI interactions to enforce our policies, keep the service safe and improve it. We may limit, change or withdraw any AI feature, or the AI providers behind it, on the notice that the Terms of Service require. Outputs are generated fresh each time and may be similar for different users.
How we use AI interactions
We keep your conversations so you can return to them. We use your interactions, together with other growers' interactions in de-identified aggregate form, to improve Harvora, as the Grower Data Sovereignty Statement describes. We do not use them for advertising.
Your choices
- (a) Do not use Ask Harvora if you prefer your questions not to reach AI providers. The rest of Harvora works without it.
- (b) Reject learning-loop proposals you do not want applied.
- (c) Ask us at privacy@harvora.co.nz to access, correct or remove learned facts, or to delete conversations. You have rights to access and correct personal information under the Privacy Act 2020.
